TikTok is great fun – it’s full of trending sounds that can make you laugh, stir emotion and more. But when you’re trying to relate videos to your own niche, it’s a brilliant resource.
I’ve been using TikTok as a writer for over a year now, and I love finding great author and reader friends I can talk about books with or find recommendations. But BookTok especially, is helpful for learning more about writing, giving and sharing advice and experience, just like BookTube has done for years, but in a much shorter format. I love the countless trending songs and sounds, and lip-syncing to them to talk about books I love, and of course, my upcoming novel.
More recently, I’ve been using it to provide updates on my self-publishing journey. For example, this was one of my most recent videos.
Not only does it give you the opportunity to share your work with wider audiences, but it’s great fun to use, too.
Many authors I’ve seen have done the same and had great success with it. One author I’ve been following for a while is AK Mulford, author of the Five Crowns of Okrith series, (the first of which I recently reviewed on my blog, actually!) She recently announced some huge news. Through sharing her books on the site, she was fortunate enough to earn herself a seven figure, five-book deal with Harper Voyager, a teen imprint of HarperCollins. Seven figures! Just shows that it can happen if you work hard enough. Seriously though, go and check out her series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book.
Maybe one day, through TikTok or elsewhere, you’ll be just as blessed? Who knows?
Guess it’s a good bit of motivation to get your book written!
