It’s been a while since I posted on this blog. This year has been intense so far! I’m constantly busy with work, swamped with freelance editing projects, or working on my debut novel, Steel Princess. (More news to come on that one very soon!) I have read quite a few books so far this year, though, so I still have some reviews to post.
Anyway, I’m back with the first book review in a while. And it’s by a lovely indie author, too. One I’ve seen many times on BookTok, posting about her stories. BookTok has introduced me to the world of indie YA fiction, and I love that.
Isn’t the cover beautiful, too? Honestly, I was intrigued when I saw it.
The book is full of witches and fae, and some spicy romance too. It’s about a nineteen year old red-witch called Remy who has always lived in hiding, alongside her friends and a mother figure who took her in when she was small. In a world where witch-hunters are common, they have had to learn to hide. But red-witches are the rarest of them all, and Remy is the only one left, having escaped a massacre when she was small, where her parents and siblings were killed. But there is a big twist at the end when you realise who her family actually is. She has secrets, and they’re really well done. I saw them coming, but I was definitely pleased with the way the author wrote Remy’s character up until that point. But I won’t spoil it for you.
Anyway, she is in hiding until the handsome and charming fae Prince Hale arrives with his team of warriors. And then she’s in trouble. She wants to run and hide, but he needs her help. He wants to find the heir of the High Mountain Court, and various trinkets containing powerful magic, so they can defeat the cruel Northern King and end the war between their kingdoms. And he needs the magic possessed by a red witch, who can move and manipulate objects to their will.
They must face several dangerous trials, and fall in love along the way. I was hooked on this book from start to finish, so I would definitely give it a read.
