As we’ve just begun a new year, and as this is my first blog post on this site, I thought it was fitting to start off by sharing my 2021 writing goals! But before you watch the very detailed video I filmed this morning, where I talk through my plans for the coming year, I believe I should share a little bit of my writing background for you. This is the first time creating an author website, but I’ve been writing young adult fiction for almost twelve years, and started on Wattpad when I was fifteen. Although, to be honest, much of the content wasn’t my best! But I like to think I’ve found my niche by now, which points more towards young adult fantasy, and retellings, especially.
I studied Creative Writing at the University of Bedfordshire, where I graduated almost five years ago. But many of the friends I met while studying that course are my closest ones now, and have been my beta readers for many of my recent projects.
Since then, I’ve started a small freelance editing business, Hooked On Words Editorial Services, where I’ve worked on various projects, some being slightly historical, two based in India, various young adult fiction projects and one adult fantasy novel. But I’m always looking to work with new authors, and love getting to know them all. I have built some lovely relationships with them all, so far. Going into my second year of this, I can’t wait to see all of the new books that come out. I’m sure you’ll get to know some of them as well, when I review their books on my blog, or talk about them in my social pages.
Currently, I have five drafted young adult fantasy novels. One is a futuristic novel with cyborgs and androids, called Heart of Silver, which I plan on self publishing some time over the next year or two! I plan to share my process with this as I go along, so watch this space! I also have two Greek myth retellings, and two fairytale retellings, of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. I’m excited to work on these over the next year, and also have plenty more novel ideas in store!
What are your writing goals for this year? Feel free to let me know in the comments or send me an email at aprilbooksandshowers@gmail.com! I’m always looking to connect with new writers. 🙂
Happy New Year, and happy reading.
More coming, soon.
